چکیده

Introduction Canine transmissible venereal tumor (CTVT) is classified as a round cell tumor. It always revealed in round to ovoid shaped cell, moderate amount of vacuolated cytoplasm with a large round to ovoid nucleus and prominent nucleoli (2). However, Amaral et al. (2007) reported that CTVT cytomorphology was classified into three types according to the majority of cell type population: plasmacytic, lymphocytic and mixed type (1). Moreover, plasmacytoid cell type was found to be related to malignant property and increased resistance to chemotherapeutic treatment (5). Our objective was to study the CTVT cell type in Thai dogs and the relation between cytomorphological characteristics and clinical treatment information.

The Singular History of a Canine Transmissible Tumor

In this issue of Cell, Murgia et al. (2006) confirm that the infectious agent of canine transmissible venereal tumor is the cancer cell itself and that the tumor is clonal in origin. Their findings have implications for understanding the relationship between genome instability and transmissible cancer and for conservation biology, canine genomics, and companion animal medicine.

TP53 Polymorphisms allow for genetic sub-grouping of the canine transmissible venereal tumor

The canine transmissible venereal tumor (CTVT) is found mainly in dogs' sexual organs. Currently, it is widely accepted that all samples of CTVT show similar histopathological characteristics and share common genetic alterations. Despite the common genetic origin of CTVT, mutations in the P53 gene have been reported. In this study, we proposed that tumor samples can be genetically grouped using...

The Canine Transmissible Venereal Tumor: Etiology, Pathology, Diagnosis and Treatment

Introduction Transmissible venereal tumor (TVT), also known as infectious sarcoma, venereal granuloma, transmissible lymphosarcoma or Sticker tumor, is a benign reticuloendothelial tumor of the dog that mainly affects the external genitalia (Fig. 1 and Fig. 2) and occasionally the internal genitalia (Fig. 3a, Fig. 3b, and Fig. 3c). As it is usually transmitted during coitus [1] it mainly occurs...

Clinical utility of a life quality score in dogs with canine transmissible venereal tumor treated by vincristine chemotherapy

The clinical utility of a life quality score during vincristine chemotherapy of dogs with canine transmissible venereal tumor (CTVT) was investigated using 93 tumor-bearing dogs in this prospective study. At diagnosis, clinical data and the performance status were evaluated according to a modified Karnofsky score (CKS) adapted for dogs. The animals were treated with vincristine sulphate (0.025m...
